Comments:
Well, despite having won the Single Operator All Bands Phone award in the 2019,
2021 and 2022 RAC Winter contests, a 2023 repeat was not to be, despite
producing my highest score ever. So unless someone else posts an even higher
score, kudos go to Ron WV4P and his fantastic station in Tennessee for taking
top Phone honors this year.
I still had a great time. I think my mult matrix was better populated than in
past years with 54 total mults, although 160m was lacking (only ON, QC and SK
there) and unlike previous years when a VY0 made it into the log, Nunavut this
year was seemingly nowhere to be found. It was gratifying to find and work
VY1CO on both 10 and 15m and to catch VE8NSD on both 15 and 20. Thanks also to
VE3EJ for working me on all bands 160-10.
40m seemed flat in the afternoon/evenings and 80m seemed less popular than usual
but the high bands were in great shape to VE from here in NE Texas.
Of 872 QSOs, 521 (60 percent) were with VEs. Of those, 3 were on 160m, 33 on
80m, 94 on 40m, 163 on 20m, 111 on 15m and 117 on 10m. The longest run was 126
Qs in 70m minutes on 28460. It’s not every year that you can say that about
10m.

Time on could have been longer, my 16h18 was 2-1/2 hours less than WV4P and that
didn’t help my cause.
Working conditions:
TS-590SG, N1MM+ and N1MM+ Spectrum server with an RSPduo for spectrum display.
KPA1500 amplifier. Antennas are Mosley PRO-67B at 63 feet (40/20/15/10), full
size ¼ wL vertical with thirty 100 foot radials for 80m and a crooked inverted
L over the same radial field for 160m. Used both the 600 foot NE beverage and
720 foot long NW beverage on the low bands.
As in most SSB contests, I used K3IT’s excellent QSORDER program to record
each QSO. In a week or two I’ll upload them and if you go to my qrz.com page
and follow the instructions you can listen to your (or anyone else’s) QSOs and
see what you sounded like here.

Victor WB0TEV
