Hi Chris,
I would take a look at some key points inside the amp before making an
offer even it does put out full power.
1. See if there are any oil around the big filter cap under the rectifer
assembly.
Replacement for that is 378.00
2. Look for arcing around the band switch...replacement 150.00
3. If the plug on the transformer has two pins missing, instead of one,
means there is not a second filament winding for the a second tube and
the transformer will need to be replaced if you want to go to 2 tubes.
Replacement 325.00
4. If the paint is sticky, you will have to replace the panels which are
available for about 250.00, or strip and repaint yourself.
5. Schematic and circuit components varied greatly over the years.
On the price it will vary from 2000 to 5000 depending on the components
in the box.
The outside number means very little to me anymore, just whats under the
hood. Some of the weak links that may still be in the amps not
professionally converted will be the 800 ma choke. Power transformer
might be to small for 4 kw input. Plate meter out of range. Grid current
trip circuit not working properly. If you are happy working a dx station
once in a while you can get by. If you lean on it its going to pop
something sooner or later.
Good Luck
