Gosh, what luck! ;-)

All I usually do is scrape the outside off and look at the guts. If 
it's a coil with multiple turns, I don't use it as a suppressor 
resistor without measurements.

I certainly would never try to measure the inductance of a five turn 
air core inductor at 1 kHz.

Just wait 'til you wind a coil over the resistor! 50-50 chance 
anyone?
