Hi guys...

A few facts which might conceivably be of interest to any of you who may
have visited a "radio" web site which is associated with a competitor's
products and recently was referenced on this reflector. It implied that I
had sold the ALPHA business multiple times, to the detriment of customers.
Like other statements in his posting, that one is scurrilously, totally
false.

I founded ETO in 1970 to design, build and sell ALPHA amateur radio amps.
My family remained the biggest shareholders from 1/15/70 until 12/30/95.
Then, after 26 years, all our founding shareholders (mostly hams) thought
it would be nice to have some liquidity, so we merged with Applied Science
and Technology, Inc. ASTeX is a high tech company whose technology,
products, and customers are complementary to ETO's. It's listed as "ASTX"
on NASDAQ. ETO is strong and growing as part of ASTeX, its sales having
more doubled since the merger.

Part of the merger deal allowed me to buy back the ALPHA amateur radio
business, which didn't fit well with ASTeX/ETO's semiconductor and medical
lines, specifically to protect our amateur radio customers. In September,
1996 we formed ALPHA/POWER, Inc. for that purpose. I remain the largest
shareholder, and active in management of ALPHA and its parent company, for
the twenty-ninth consecutive year. And if we bring in additional qualified
investors, they're virtually certain to be serious hams like John Brosnahan
and me.

John, W0UN, became President & Technical Director of the company in March
of this year. He's a well known radio expert and a true professional. As I
said in March, there is no one else in the world whom I'd rather have
running ALPHA/POWER than John. For the first time in ALPHA's history, I'm
confident that it's under better on-site management and technical
leadership than I could provide myself.

So our ownership and management continuity remains unbroken for the 29th
consecutive year, greatly strengthened with the extremely positive addition
of John to lead ALPHA into the future.

Cordially,

Dick Ehrhorn W0ID
