Hi Jim,
I use the HENRY SS500 and it works flawlessly even with the varying SWR of a
mobile environment.
I too have an ICOM IC-706 and a homebrew screwdriver antenna.
I only use the front car battery and feed the amp with #4 DC cable. It puts
out 500 key down CW.
