i asked these same questions of an eimac engineer several (ok, many) 
years ago.  as i recall, his reply was that they were the same tube.  
they could even be from the same production run.  the difference is 
in the specifications and in the testing.  based on what he said, i'd 
bet a nickel that they are, to all intents and purposes, identical.

this was about 35 years ago, though, so things may have changed.

does anyone out there have more current info?
