With around 13 dB gain, your 100 or so watt barefoot transceiver will
get the legal 1500 watts out from the 8K. And the tube in the 8K will
be cool, calm, and last you the rest of your life time!! Everything
in the 8K is super conservative for legal limit RTTY, etc other high
duty modes. You certainly do not need to hang onto your SB221
to run 1500 out.
In fact, with 100 watts into the 8K, and it's 13 dB gain, you will
get out around 2000 watts, so better cut the drive in back until
the Bird in the 8K reads no more than 1500 out with the key down,
SSB peaks. That way, when you pass on, someone will inherit,
or your estate will sell the 8K in a few decades, and it will
last someone else another few decades, hi.
