The element that warps is the (helical) filament [see picture on p.15
of 9/1990 QST]
The best way to detect a warped fil. is with a high pot tester. A good
tube will exhibit well over 6kV of grid/fil. withstanding ability. I
have seen some new tubes that withstood 9kV.
