-  -  Does this sound a bit like Not Invented Here Syndrome?.  .   Are 
tubes with substantially more VHF amplification, less capable of VHF 
oscillation?

?  Indeed, Ian, indeed.   It seems a tad odd that the guy who is in 
charge of an engineering book rewrite, works for the Marketing Dept. 
instead of the Engineering Dept.
