Several years ago I bought several ICE units intended to protect radios
from electrostatic discharges & presumable lightning-induced spikes. They
smoked in short order at less than rated carrier power. Investigation
convinced me that their shunt inductors could never have been tested under
rated conditions - apparently not enough core/inductance to handle xmtr rf.
Sounds very similar to problems you gents have been reporting.
