I've been getting ready to build an amplifier using 2 3CX800A7 tubes,
but have found a well known trader on the newsgroups, and eBay now selling
3CPX800A7 medical pulls. From what I can tell, the tubes are exactly the
same, except the latter is rated for a higher plate voltage, and much higher
plate current. The tube produces 6kW out with 320 watts of drive in typical
operation as a cathode driven amplifier.
My question is, what kind of performance can I expect with less than 100
watts of drive using it in a class AB amplifier? Does anyone have any
experience with this tube? Maybe I can get by with just one tube.
Thanks for your input,
Jim Smith, KQ6UV
