I always understood the idea in these contests WAS to splatter, as that
helped keep the frequency. Like having key clicks on CW.

However, the rule is:

'If I interfere with your reception, it's because you have a lousy receiver.
If you interfere with my reception, it's because you have a lousy
transmitter'.
