Hi Jeff, and Reflectees,
Actually, you can treat the YC-156 as a 3CX15000B7 as far as RF
linear amp service is concerned. The difference is that the anode
cooler is much smaller, with only 5000 watts dissipation instead of=20
15000 watts. The recommended operation of the heater is one on/off
cycle per day. A 6 minute warm-up time is required before anode
voltage and drive voltage are applied. Cooling air should also be run
for several minutes after voltages are removed. Eimac suggests that =
the
tuned input circuit operate at a Q of three or more. The reason for =
all the
above is that the heater is very small compared to most tubes of this
power rating. (15 volts @ 15 amps) One side of the heater is internally
connected to the cathode, so you will need a filament choke. The good
news is that it need be only a 15 amp unit. The best news is that a =
YC-156=20
requires no socket! With 100 watts drive @ 6kv Ep, you can give a
10 kw Bird slug a real workout.
GL, and be careful.

Subject: [AMPS] YC-156 Cathode/Filament question

  Hello list,
I have a question about the YC-156. Does this tube have an indirectly =
heated cathode. Someone told me that one side of the filament is tied =
internally to the cathode. Someone else told me to treat this tube as a =
giant 8877. If anyone would know this is the list. Could someone please =
explain about the cathode and filament on this tube.Any help is =
appreciated.
  Best Regards Jeff KD4LYH
