Bill Orr wrote an article about the 4-1000 socket.  He suggested using the
plastic socket and cutting off the bottom - to reduce back pressure.

I did and it does.

One of the problems with a quiet fan is that the operator has to keep saying
"uh" to keep the vox actuated in anticipation of something important being
said.  A good high speed centrifugal blower will keep the vox continually
activated and require the operator to turn the vox off and use push to talk.
That reduces the word count, which reduces interference.
