We use a lot (thousands are used, hundreds in series for 3 phase HV
rectifier stacks for 90 kV 25 Amp power supplies) of IR 70H100A stud
mount diodes (International Rectifier), they are impressive monsters.
They are in oil on boards, outside in GE transformer rectifier units.
When you are worrying about the 1N5554 and other plastic diodes, and
want to push the envelope, try 'em. Only problem is that they are no
longer a few pennies each...
