SELL: Recently completed 10-80m Drake L4 retrofit with a full output
(new 8877) Eimac. Amplifier easily runs 1700-1800 Watts into the antenna
with 55 watts of drive as measured with a Bird 43 and a 2500H slug. The
unit is powered by newly designed and enclosed remote HV supply (rack
mount dimensions) and only 8-1/4"" deep. The supply develops
4000V/1-1/2amps
(Alpha Transformer powered) and is fully customized with manually
adjustable step start, auto
resettable solid state 3 minute time delay, fan cooled, and a front
panel power supply toggle switch to run at half power. The supply is
metered for amperes (0-2) and high voltage(0-5000). Great care was taken
to ensure that the exterior of the Drake deck has not been altered in
any way. The condition of the Drake is near new with only minor surface
imperfections and scuffs in the paint. All switches and control knob
functions are OEM Drake except that the front panel AC switch now
controls standby and the rewired amber ready light. The tuned input and
pine components are stock Drake. A high volume blower has been
installed to provide adequate cooling. A shaft mounted dedicated
Varian has been added to control filament voltage from the rear panel.
Pin outs are provided for monitoring this critical voltage. A new custom
2amps HV solid porcelain choke and a plate parasitic choke have been
added for rock solid stability. The 8877 mounts in a Johnson air system
socket and cooled from below via the stock Drake pressurized sub
compartment configuration. A heavy wall teflon chimney directs the flow
of air through the cooling fins. High voltage connections are Millen on
each end. The power supply is dedicated to 220VAC operation with a
separate input cord. The RF deck has been rewired for 110VAC via an
EMI/RFI input circuit to control all lower voltage systems in the deck.
Dedicated 220VAC is wired directly to the supply and controlled with
dual heavy duty DPDTcontactors. Check the site listed below for
digitals of the project. $1800 complete system. Sorry no shipping! Can
be seen in the Scranton PA area, New York City, during my once a week
baby sitting chore in New Jersey (exit 117 GSP) or for pick up during my
anticipated Dayton visit. Check out the Yahoo site listed below
(type in the address) for digitals or dial in QRZ.COM (W2CQM) for
additional personal info. Ron W2CQM New York City
