My SB-1000 did, too. Recently I thought I could get away with using a Sprague
1000 pf 6KV doorknob in my 160 meter antenna tuner. This one is about 1" dia,
5/8" high (2.5cm x 1.5cm), significantly larger than the ones in the SB-1000. At
the 800 watt level (QRP for many in this audience), the SWR drifted up as I
keyed the transmitter. The doorknob was warm, but not what I would call hot.
Replacing it with a big fat mica (I don't know the designation, but it's about
2" x 2" x 1" in size [5cm x 5cm x 2.5cm]) put an end to this behavior.
