If you are not in a hurry, you can take high resolution photographs with
the old standard 35 mm SLR camera, using macro lenses and high quality
interchangeable lenses. Then, when you have the film processed, you can
ask for either a 3.5" diskette (for about $2.50 additional) or a higher
resolution CD ROM for about ($8). For most purposes, the diskette is fine.
The .jpg images are just about the right file size for transmission over
the Internet and you even get image editing software with the diskette or
CD ROM.
The advantage is that the 35 mm camera is already sitting around and you do
not have to pay out for something that will become obsolete.
Generally, low pixel count is not the cause of poor digital photographs.
It is the computer behind the camera. Proper contrast and lighting can
result in wonderful photographs, even with a simple piece of equipment. I
have actually had more problem with the auto-focus on the digital cameras
than the pixel count.
