Paul, my guess is that the "only" problem is the switch, and once you
replace it, all will be well.
That switch is stressed pretty hard at 230V: It's about 12A flowing through
the switch and just a matter of time until it fails. I'd have preferred a
15A dual-pole circuit breaker in lieu of the switch (such as Henry uses on
most of their amps), but...
