Hi Amp Experts,
I purchase a Clipperton L Amp a while back and I'm having power supply
problems...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The seller claimed the power supply had been rebuilt... After a few
months, it took up
smoking.. After inspection I find the 8 filter 100ufd caps (as shown on
the schematic) had been replaced with 10 470ufd caps... The extra 2
caps have been mounted on
a professional looking extra circuit board mounted to the inside side of
the chassis.
It almost looks like a modification. Can anyone with Clipperton L
experience tell me if this is a recommended modification? Also, the
traces on the rectifier board had been
burned off previously and the new caps were hard wired on the rectifier
board... Yikes !
What a nightmare this is going to be to trace out ! It's kinda a mess.

Anyway, I still don't know where the smoke was coming from.. There
isn't any obvious
signs of burning. The H.V. meter fluctuates considerably when turned on
so about all
I can do is start disassembling the power supply. Another question,
does anyone know
if anyone makes custom made rectifier circuit boards? I don't imagine I
could ever find
an original one. Last question, What would be the effect of
changing the 100ufd (500v) caps to 470ufd (450v) caps? (I'm no EE)
Any and all comments appreciated Tnx .... 73, Les, WØOJH
