Thanks so much for the answers; I read the RCA manual specs about this tube, but wanted to know about other's experiences (I have at hand two of them, no sockets nor chimneys).

I guess that some unbypassed cathode resistance might also work to improve linearity.

I have a vague memory of seeing an article about cathode driven '250s, but can't recall when/where.
