You definitely have a problem with the 240 outlet. I would check the actual
socket first and then go backwards towards the fuses.
The sound comes from the trafo in the amp, when the arcing occurs, the
magnetic field in the trafo is rapidly on/off and that will make the same
sound as an arc. You will have the same sound, however just one "click" if
you plug in a trafo to an outlet as there is no magnetic field at that very
moment and the build up is causing a current rush that will "rattle" the
lamination in the trafo.
