In the 80-b manual it states the amp should be peaked, then advance the load 
control to (slightly) drop the peak for best linearity.
Who needs the manual? E-mail me separate and I will send you a copy.

  The schematic is useful.  At one time, the manual stated that it was 
  okay to load and tune a 3-500Z at >500mA.  However, the various 
  manufacturers of 3-500Zs rate it at 400mA max.  Although it will draw 
  more 400mA when overdriven, a 3-500Z loses linearity above 400mA.
