You might as well polish the copper (easier is a dip in dilute nitric acid,
or even boil in vinegar!), wash well, and then lacquer. If you don't care
about the looks, don't bother.

Where heavy silver plating comes in useful is if you have a sliding contact
for a variable inductor: then you want ehavily silver loaded graphite for
the slider.
