Is this modem an external device? If so, have him to take some aluminum foil 
and wrap the modem up good, shileding it, just letting the wires come out. Take 
a jumper lead and attach one end to the foil and the other to a good known 
ground. Try it out and see if the modem kicks out. That will tell if the 
problem is from an emmited RF killing the modem or it's coming in through the 
wiring. There shouldn't be any RF with the amp in idle but who knows?
