I was thinking about that one too. I suspect that the spec was for use in
portable SSB Military transceivers such as the PRC-47 where there is little
concern with IMD products. Who cares in the jungle. Same may be for the higher
spec for the 4CX250.

Following this thread, I pulled down my very-own 1955 Eimac catalog, because
I happened to remember some specs relative to the 4-65A that I had wondered
about from time to time.
This particular spec sheet, dated 1954, lists a "Max-signal useful power
output" of 325 watts for a single tube, in linear SSB suppressed carrier
service.
No distortion figures are mentioned.
