My issue with the AL-1200 was not so much the design, but rather
Ameritron's marketing of it. I had one of the first ones and they
advertised it as a "legal limit amplifier". Only later did they add
caveats about duty cycle, etc. I've always wondered if they did that
because of my two experiences with the tank coil failing.

When I asked Tom about the coil failure shortly after it happened, his
response was "who works 160 meter RTTY?".
