If you have subscribed to this list using an e-mail alias (for example,
<yourcall>@arrl.net) instead of your "real" e-mail address and the
post to the list from your "real" address, the message will be rejected.
"Members only" posting is a key part of the list software's anti-spam
filtering - otherwise the list would be bombarded by dozens if not
hundreds of spam e-mails a day.
The "from"" header (and "Reply-to:" if present) must contain the e-mail
address under which you are subscribed.
Those who regularly read the list from another account may wish to
subscribe from both accounts and set one to "no mail" to suppress
the second copy of each posting.
All user administrative functions can be accomplished by going to the
web page for the list: http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps
and entering your e-mail address at the bottom of the page. You will be
able to edit all of your account settings and even change e-mail address
if you would like. If you have forgotten (or never set) a password, you
can request the password be sent to your subscribed address.
There other anti-spam measures that seem to be tripping up some users:
1) no message may have more than five addressees (including CC:). A
CC list is not necessary with a mail list - sending an occasional
copy to a non-list member (manufacturer, supplier, etc.) is fine
but remember the non-member will not be able to respond to the
list.
2) all postings are limited to 20 K. If you quote (copy) large parts
of a previous e-mail or use HTML e-mail, it is very possible that
your posting will be rejected. Use text only and trim any quotes
to the bare minimum.
3) attachments are not permitted - the software strips them. This
includes not only executable and graphic files but also other
text files.
