folks:

This is a memory Jogger, now:
Waaaayyyy Back at the Navy School Radio Club statioin, K6LY, I remember
seeing some (smaller, possibly 8122 size) mil spec external anode tubes, NOS
in our "Junk Box". The tubes were packed in some OD green cans, about the
size of a can of olives, that had a pop tab, a pull on which cracked the
seal of the top which was pealed off, and when I popped one open there was a
powerful pop-hiss of the vacuum being broken/Filled inside the can.

Is an outer package for transmitting tubes that has a moderate vacuum
applied, an effective way to preserve tubes from damage due to slow leakage
around the Plate/electrode seals? Can you put your 3-500Z or other tubes in
storage in a jar, and using some home type of vacuum source, moderately
evacuate/seal the container, and get extended life from the tube inside?

Sincerely, Pat Barthelow aa6eg@hotmail.com
