With the high price of Peter Dahl transformers, I used a toroidal wound unit
from Antek Inc. Their eBay store is at http://stores.ebay.com/Antek-inc The
unit I use to run 2 x 3-500s is rated at 800VA continuous duty. It has dual
115VAC primaries and dual 650VAC secondaries.

If you can get past the fear and loathing of anything associated with Voltage
doublers your dual 650VAC secondaries will give you 1300VAC x 2 x 1.41= 3600VAC
or in parallel will give you 1300VAC x 1.41= 1800VDC. The transformer also has
a couple of 12.6VAC windings which I don't use.

They have another unit with dual 800VAC secondaries which will produce 2250VAC
in a voltage doubler circuit.

The solution is not perfect but the cost is $99.00 + a bit of shipping (about
20 pounds weight). There is an amp company in England that uses toroidal
transformers in their designs for the past few years.
