[Amps] Subject: why a 200 watt transceiver

How about a less than obvious reason? 



Dial it back to 100 - 150 watts or so and run RTTY or other continuous modes 
with greater margins.   Even if you have an amp that can do legal limit with no 
keydown limitations, the solid state 100 W exciters will still get pretty warm.
