After reading several day's worth of arguing over topics, I would like
to say that I enjoy it. This country was founded on people arguing their
side of an issue. We have become "too civil" in this country by not
speaking up against people with whom we disagree. Everything has become
"sterile" and vigorous discussion is no longer tolerated and is even
discouraged. Take a look at the arguments and fights in Congress during
the early years of this country. People had passion and were not afraid
to stand up for what they believed. Now we perceive this passion as
"barbaric" and not condoned by "polite" society. We shun the people who
cause trouble because we ourselves are too afraid to stand up for
something. It is easier to sit on the sidelines and call them "children"
and "immature" because they refuse to stand by and allow information
they do not think is correct predominate. What a minute...personal
attacks? Read up on some history during elections. Personal attacks were
common and even more vicious than I have ever seen on this mailing list.

So who is right in the debate? I don't know for sure and they are
certainly far smarter people on this mailing list than me (on both sides
of any given issue). But I am glad that we have some people with the
courage to get in each other's face. That is what makes for a good
discussion and I have indeed learned a lot from reading the posts. It
made a good country and it makes a good mailing list.

Just my thoughts...you are, of course, free to challenge (and encouraged
to do so).
