Jim,
I saw one of those amps at Dayton. You will need 3 strong men and 2 boys to
carry it. Not sure about the control board part count - agree 1K parts
seems quite a few - but the overall build quality - and simple mass - of the
amp was really unbelievable.
If I remember right, they claim to have the only SS amp on the market that
supports key-down all-modes, no questions asked, at 1500w out, all bands,
all conditions. Caught my eye as I favor RTTY. Need a lottery win to
afford one.
By contrast, at the Alpha booth, they had a 9500 with the brick on the key -
turns out the key was running a keyer with high speed dits going out - so
that "key down, no time limit" really must mean "50% duty cycle, key down,
no time limit."
The 9500 next to the promethus, the promethus has the weight and mass
advantage at least 2:1.
Very, very sweet amp.
