I think you are thinking of the 3CX1200D7.

I was talking about the much newer but little used 3CX1500D7 which was 
supposed seems to basically be an instant on 8877 and uses the existing 
3-500/3CX1200A7 socket.

** Ive not heard much about it but wouldnt it suffer from similar problems 
to the 1200A7?  Why Eimac continues with grid pins and sockets is hard to 
fathom since the grid flange bolted to the chassis is so stable.

Regarding the swap to an 8877 or pair of 3-500s, surely the biggest issue 
there will be the filament xformer. I would think this swap could be done 
for $300 or less if one already has the tube(s) to be used.
