Beryllium is between junctio area and the heatsink, so beryllium is the bottom substrate. I dont know how to detect or recognoce "this is beryllium" other than reading the manufacturers description regarding beryllium. Under no circumstances make any attempt to grind or smooth beryllium surfaces, as the beryllium is VERY unhealty if inhaling beryllium particles.
