Ebay and Paypal started off as a separate business.
You can use one without having to use the other.
Ebay found that they can control their value chain better
(buyers/sellers) and purchased Paypal.
Both are Cash cows now.
Google checkout is a competitor to Paypal(outside of Ebay).
