Grid driven amplifiers have been made using other low Mu tubes. 
The 304TL is a fine example but much lower power.
They have been even used in grounded grid however required a lot of
drive power. You can even find some info in the Radio Handbook (Bill Orr) 
running them grounded grid. Takes about 200Watts drive to get legal limit, for 
those days.

 Any ideas if the a1 variant can be used in amateur service?
 I picked p one of these along with two a7's.
 When was the last time a grid driven linear was made from one of these a1's?
 Worth trying?
