Dave, for quite a long time many of us operating on the microwave bands  
have taken it a step further and include a dish feed along with the twt and  
preamplifier. This assembly is built into a weather proof enclosure and sits 
at  the dish focus. In addition, a transverter is included and only an i.f. 
coax  cable is run to the shack.
 
All of this is done to minimize cable losses to the extent possible.
