I too have a machine shop and I agree 100% with Roger. Especially on clothing, 
and NEVER wear a necktie. Always use safety goggles where appropriate, like 
wise ear protection.

When drilling, ease the pressure every so often so that long curly bit of nasty 
sharp swarf (which in steel may be blue with heat!) breaks off without even 
THINKING of touching it! In fact, while any machine is working, don't touch 
anything but the handwheels adjusting the machine and the STOP button.

There are several good books on model engineering for those who wish to learn 
safe Workshop Practice.
