Passive IMD had been a problem for many years (at least 60!) at multi
transmitter/receiver sites - popularly called "rusty bolt effect" when applied
to repeaters. It's even worse on ships, especially naval vessels with several
transmitters and receivers trying to work simultaneously, with stays and chains
and wire ropes etc making intermittent contact. Plessey Microwave Materials in
the UK developed some (quite expensive) "Anti-intermodulation grease" for the
Royal Navy, which had good lubricating properties, was resistant to sea water
and was conductive. As the company doesn't exist any more, I don't know if it
is still available - possibly a part of BAe still do it.

I suspect the large contact surface for a UHF connector means it not bad for
PIMD!
