As I understand the 'physics' (explained to me, not based on my
raw physics knowledge) the steps with measurable-meaning at the
received end are approximately 100w, 600w, 1200w.
I've been running 1 KW SSB out of an AL-1500, HF-2000, and an AL-80A
casually for quite a few years.
Although 1KW is pushing the 20 year old Eimac 3-500 in the AL-80A, it
does so within spec and it has been doing it for the last 7 years.
I like QRO and warming up a dummy load @ 2 KW+ but I've yet to see an
advantage in running legal limit vs 1KW on the air.
