## Points well taken. However the chinese 8877 has been around a long time
now.... is cheap, and well made.
The 3x3 is great for hb amp builders. However, to do it right means vac tune +
load caps, which kills it right there for a commercial amp.

Alpha has been using those tubes because they get them cheap from China. You
can by 2 maybe 3 of them for the price of one Eimac 8877. Although the Chinese
do make 8877's and 3cx800's now. There has to be a reason why they don't go to
3cx3000 tubes and I am pretty sure it's not money reasons. Must have
something to do with size or certifications.

## Why alpha screws around with silly tube lineups over the years is beyond
me.
A buddy just bought their dual 4CX-1000 amp.
Why didn’t they just use a single 8877 like their 8877 auto tune amp ? The
2500w SS amps will cost two arms and both legs.
Gimme a single 3CX-3000A7 any day. 50w of drive = 1500w out. 100w = 2.5 kw
150w = 3.5 kw 200w = 5.2 kw
IMD is superb at 5 kw out... -59db pep. Takes 45 secs to dial up pre-sets to
change from the highest band to the lowest band.
You cant blow the tube up..and its dead simple. A single or dual 8877 is
simple too. A SS 1.5 kw rtty amp is not gonna be cheap.
Then toss in the 1.5 kw rated LP filters for each band, RF deck, pwr supply,
+ 1.5 kw CCS auto tuner.....so it doesn’t blow
its brains out with a 2:1 swr, etc, ..and you can see why its expensive.

we have been waiting on that dual 8877 amp with roller inductor for some time
now. Many die hard hams would prefer that over solid state.

Perhaps, yes. But regardless of how inexpensive the Chinese amps may be,
at the end of the day they will still be Chinese amps, metaphorically
speaking.
Exciting things to come in 2015 in the QRO solid state market. Trust me
on this :)
