Probably quite true Carl.

I use a huge auto transformer here, with taps at minus 10 through to
minus 40 volts. The AL-1500 is permanently running at 230V AC with the
taps inside the amp set at 240V. Everything runs as it should and the
input voltage doesn't budge with the 'full 400" of RF out of the amp.

Most overvoltage is due to amps designed in the 60's and 70's when the
 AC line was
117/234; now it is often as high as 125/250 and even more at times.

One of the things I wonder about is how you add a resistor to
the filament lead since it seems it is going to have to be about
0.2/0.4 ohms or so at high current. Maybe a wire but that can add
inductance so I was never clear on that. I suspect my Dentron could
use that mod but I haven't done it yet.

mouser.com has many such resistors available.
