What's wrong with this airplane? Simple. You are assuming the ground
plane i.e. the body of the airplane does not radiate. Not true. 

In the "far field" the radiation from the ground plane does indeed
cancel., but in the "near filed", right next to the ground plane it
does radiate. 

The antenna and ground plane are effectively in series. All the
current flowing in one also flows in the other. If your wiring or
computer or whatever is close to one part of the ground plane BUT NOT
the other part, there will be coupling. 

And that is the problem.
