I look for all kinds of parts that are old. Common? Maybe not. Cheap?
Yes. Cheapo? Not necessarily. E.g., was transferring super-8 movies to
digital last year. Bulb broke. A new one was indeed available, but for
$80. I found one at a second-hand store for 50 cents. In good shape and
worked fine. For those willing to take the time to get the job done right,
I'm just fine with that, old parts or new. Another eg: look up how hams
create rigs to operate on 33 cm.
