RE: Copy of: 24 Hour participants

I vote for a 24 hour category, but vehemently against "CONTIGUOUS".

The folks we are trying to draw in to more participation are the folks who
now make 10 or 20 contacts during the 48 hours as they casually tune the
bands. If there were a 24-hour category some of them would decide to
"compete", but 24 hours in one chunk would weed out an awful lot.

This target population will not generally be sophisticated enough to plot
their operation to the highest run rate times, they will plot their time to

fit best with their other personal priorities, such as family, sleep,
church, or their own personal "clock".

I don't think there is much danger that the current "real" contesters will
drop down into the 24-hour category. 98% of the 24-hour participants will
be new blood, or folks who only make a handful of casual contacts now to
fill holes in DXCC, WAZ, or whatever.

Non-contiguous also spreads these folks out over the whole weekend, not in
one "slug", before and after which will be doldrums.

If a person has a conflict anywhere in the 24-hour "window", he/she will be

less likely to participate, but if they can schedule their 24 hours around
other personal priorities they are more likely to participate.

Young people (a target population!) are likely to have parental objection
to 24-hours straight, and also social engagements which they would schedule

around.

Please, please, please, not "contiguous"!
