Well, I must say something again in support of the 24 hour subcategory. While
I've joked about the "aging wimp" situation and that is a factor, I simply
think that a 24 hour subcategory would provide another means of measuring -
and demonstrating to others - how an operator and his/her station perform in a
given contest. And, at the same time, it would allow some semblance of "normal
life" on a contest weekend, as has been well discussed by others. I also think
the idea of momentos as recently adopted in SS has merit.
One of the reasons I chose to operate single-band 75 in ARRL SSB this year was
to allow more of a "normal" weekend with the family, for example. From
Colorado, it was a rather dull event - even with the reasonable performance of
my phased Hytowers. But, most of all, I did see the family that weekend!
It is too bad that some of the more serious contesters choose to misconstrue
the suggestion. I think the suggestion for a trial of the concept has a lot of
merit and would like to see it happen.
