Personally I'm very disappointed in the new format for the SS results.
Because the old system presented the results by state, it was easy to
compare results with friends and neighbors. Under the new format, it's
difficult to tell who did best in any particular state, and comparing
results by state is an arduous task.
It's true that the new format more accurately reflects the scoring
structure of SS. But, the majority of SS particapants aren't in the contest
to win. They're often more interested in comparing their results with
those of friends in their geographic area.
I believe that the long term result of this change will be reduced
participation in this contest. It's important to remember that the views
offered on this reflector are the views of serious contesters, not the
majority, the casual contest operators.

With the division listings, people like KK7A are suddenly 31st in the
NorthWestern division instead of being second place in Idaho. I think
the region reporting is okay (except all it does is print the top scores
all over again, plus a few more), but the section listing is more
comfortable and prompts more local competition than the divisional listings.
There was one guy who used to get on in the SS just to win Oregon. He
retired when it was clear he couldn't continue doing it. However, if his
score was listed with everyone else in the division, he would be on top
and he wouldn't have been interested in competiting in the first place.
So we have reduced the number of people who can be on top by a factor of 6.
I also would like to see the club competition be played up a bit more.
The sprints have showed us that have active groups in the contest is a
great way to promote activity. People are probably more likely to get
involved in the contest if it is part of a club effort. They don't have
to have a big score to feel they are part of something and are
contributing.
Finally, I think people who broke into the top ten on CW from the black
hole should of received more attention, and what about the fact that
three of the top ten CW high power guys all went to the same contest
school in the MidWest? (or is it even four?).

I agree completely. The thing that got me active again, after many years
of non-contesting was joining FRC.
