Can we please move this discussions about QSL's, IRC's, green
stamps, and the alleged "easy money" aspirations of some DX
operators to the DX reflector?
I don't see what sending pieces of paper back in forth in the
mail has anything to do with contesting. This is a contesting
group, isn't it?

Tom, you certainly raise a valid point. I have received several CQWW
contest certificates from CQ magazine. In one case I waited over a
year to receive the certificate. Yes,one year AFTER the results were
printed...this is TWO YEARS after the contest took place!! I spoke
to K1AR about it and was told that they were implementing a new system
to printt the certificates and thus there was a delay. The following
year, I received my certificates 6 months after the results were
printed. A net improvement of 25%...not bad but I still think the system
needs work.
Is there anyone from the CQ contest committee that would like to offer
us an explanation of how you are improving this? It's bad enough that
we need to wait 11 months to see the results in print, but by then the
certificates should be printed, no?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious way to avoid ruining a
*perfect* throw or shot by breaking the line: simply pull up two small,
thin lines BEFORE any heavy-duty things! Makes you feel REAL SMART when
the first heavy-duty line comes snaking down around your neck after

Wrist Rockets are not real common in the larger metropolitan areas,
probably because there is no legimate use for them in such areas. If you
can't find them at your local sporting goods outlet, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, or
other such discount outlet, you will probably have to take a drive into a
suburb or even totally outside your city altogether.
A real funny was that when I was in Hawaii last year on a biz trip (yes,
Virginia, I really WAS working in Hawaii, not vacationing!), I tried to
find a wrist rocket when my co-worker and I succeeded in renting a
beachhouse where there were several 75 to 90 foot palm trees. I never did
find the whole thing; but at one K-Mart, I found a dozen replacement
tubing/sling assemblies! I had to make a holder from some real stiff
wire, and it just barely worked adequately...
