Beware the tower "expert"

The recent discussions about putting up towers reminded me of a somewhat
humorous incident from a few years ago.

A friend of mine was getting ready to install a 70' tower. He mentioned this
at his local club meeting one night, mostly to see if anyone had a few good
sections of 25G for sale. Well, the "expert" heard this and advised my
friend that he should use 25G for the bottom two sections and then use 20G
for the other five because in a big wind you want the tower to "sway" with
the wind!!
No guys needed!! If it stayed too rigid it might break right off at the
bottom!!

Fortunately, my friend also knew W0AIH (who, rumor has it, knows a thing or
two about towers!!!)

I remember the time I was operating at W2PV on 15 SSB, and things got slow
on Sunday afternoon. I opened the drawer of the desk and found a whole bunch
of tape loops, many of which were unlabeled.

I had a ball trying each one out to find out whose voice got the most answers.

Seems to me that K1RX's voice held the watt meter up most consistently, while
K2TR's voice seemed the most animated.

The CQ SS loop wasn't too effective in the WW though.

I had a coax arm support break on my Wilson crank up tower.
Any ideas on replacements, as Wilson is long out of business.
